Went to the Gun Show today and SCORED!

Came home with a Custom Mauser. It has a Mauser Action, Timney Trigger, 45/70 Heavy Barrel, Monte Carlo Walnut Stock with a Silver Grip Cap and Pachmayr Recoil Pad, Lepold Scope Mount and Rings, Redfield 12x Scope and a box of ammo. I think it was built in the 1950's and it still looks like new. I traded a Stevens 311 double barrel shotgun and $150 for it, I think I stole it!!

Wow!!!! The shotgun wasn't worth a bunch so you might just have $300-$400 max in this. Yeah, that would be a deal. Some of the best hunting rifles ever made have been built on Mauser actions.

What's stamped on the receiver?

You know that Factory 45-70 ammo has to be downloaded in case it gets fired in a old gun with a weak receiver. No worries with the Mauser though, you can safely hand load that bad boy way up.

Did you even offer to kiss the seller after what you did to him?

I had $200 in the shotgun and he wanted to trade. He wanted a shotgun for home defense. I think he may have inherited the rifle. I have a hand-loading die for 45/70 and you can bet I'll be loading up some HOT rounds! And NO he was too ugly to kiss! LOL!!!

Morristown, just off the interstate. It's an RK show but a small one. lots of old men with single shot shotguns! LOL! It's only about 30 minutes from me.
I've been too busy with a three-wheel motorcycle I'm building, cuts into my computer time!

For comparison: a .30-06, .45-70, and .50-90, respectively.
